Sikh Sangeet version 1.3 for Android
For Android OS (1.6 and above), a newer version of the Sikh Sangeet app has been released. This release addresses several bugs (freezes and crashes) and implements a new feature.
Changelog:
- Fixed bugs/crashes on Android 2.2 Froyo and T-Mobile/HTC G2
- Song plays in the background while user can browse the artist/albums/tracks (just like iPhone’s version v1.2)
- Loads song immediately
- Random songs display artist information
Please note: As of right now, we do not have any plans to do v1.3 iPhone release.

Sikh Sangeet version 1.2 for iPhone
We’ve just submitted a newer version of the Sikh Sangeet app with the following listed changes. We hope that the users support us in their endeavor.
- Fixed idle bug (the audio dies when screen goes blank) (reported by Rani)
- Track plays in the background while user can browse the artist/albums/tracks (requested by Robin)
- In-place searching artists, albums, tracks
- Refresh each screen in case it fails loading
- New tab icons
- iAds to support free development

Sikh Sangeet iPhone App updated for iOS 4

We’ve just submitted our iOS 4 update of the Sikh Sangeet App. Sorry for taking so long in getting this out, but this whole iPhone app development process was not a particularly easy task. This was problematic because iOS4 SDK was not available for Mac OSX 10.5.8 Leopard, so we had to update our computer and development environment to Mac OSX 10.6.4 Snow Leopard, and go through a lot of other problems, like updating the Sikh Sangeet API, setup the new Mac, make code compatible with iOS 4, and do testing on a iPod Touch (iOS 4) device. Thank Waheguru we’re done.
The hold up is now in Apple’s hands. We’ve submitted the update, now Apple will probably take about a month to approve this application for the wider public.

We’ve been working hard for a couple of months trying to take Sikh Sangeet to the next level. We wanted to bring Sikh Sangeet to the mobile platform with native functionality. First, we worked diligently trying to put up an API for Sikh Sangeet’s vast collection. Then the API was used to quickly come up with a Sikh Sangeet App for the iPhone. Screenshots attached!
This is only the beginning, we hope to do big stuff in the future. Keep it locked!

- New features are added to Sikh Sangeet site:
- Profile system. For example, admin’s profile list admin’s submissions in terms of playlists, tags, shabads, and reviews. We also store your avatars full size (as uploaded) to show on your profiles.
- Multiple servers to stream and download. Because our current server is overloaded and uses too much bandwidth, causing overuse charges.
- Tabs are faster. So, it is easier and faster to read shabads and download tracks.
- New Galleries in our Gallery (thanks to volunteer moneysingh)
- New Watermarks in our Gallery (thanks to volunteer Jasmeet Singh Bansal)
- Registration: username restrictions are relaxed. Now you can use spaces, underscores, and hyphens in your username.
- Bugs fixed
- Main page tab slideshow was picking tabs randomly
- Registration: error handling is fixed, avatar system is fixed
- Profiles: avatar handling is fixed

A volunteer at Sikh Sangeet, Jasmeet Singh Bansal, has made 4 wallpapers for the Sikh Sangeet Sangat. They are featured in the Sikh Sangeet Gallery > Official Art > Wallpapers.
We hope that other artists and volunteers help Sikh Sangeet and support it by producing quality content.
Integrated with SikhiToTheMax to provide Shabad lyrics
As you all know, Sikh Sangeet is pulling in Shabads from SikhitotheMax database so that we can show shabads on Sikh Sangeet website, as people are listening. However, we need your help in connecting audio shabads to their text.
Here is an example album where track 02, 03, 04, 05 are all readable. You just click on “Shabad” tab and press “Read Shabad”. Link: Various – Bollywood Gurbani Tracks (Sikh Sangeet Compilation)
So if you want to volunteer by linking the shabads, here are the steps:
1. Login to Sikh sangeet account. (Sign up if you have not)
2. Go to the shabad/album that you want to add the Shabad for.
3. Play the shabad if you need to.
4. Find that shabad in SikhiTotheMax
5. When you search, remember to click the “Shabad” button in the search results.
6. Now look in the address bar, the link will be something like this: http://sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=20555 (note this last number)
7. In Sikh Sangeet, click the “Shabad” tab right below the track you just listened to.
8. Put the Shabad ID in that input box, and click the button “Add Shabad”.
Once you have done this, I will make sure the info is correct and all sangat will be able to read the Shabad lyrics.
Remember your little seva will do a lot for the thousands that use this website.
Sikh Sangeet Update Nov 2, 2009
To celebrate Guru Nanak Dev ji’s birthday, we’re putting out the next release of Sikh Sangeet. In this release, we’ve bridged 3 of our sites: forum, gallery, and SikhSangeet.com. So this means that when you sign up/in at SikhSangeet.com, you will automatically signed up/in at the forum and gallery, with the same login username/password.
This will help create a simpler Sikh Sangeet interface and we hope you enjoy the effort that we’ve put to make this seemingly-simple integration possible.
